Riverdale boasts an impressive number of both large scale parks and smaller community recreation areas. The community's crown jewel is Wave Hill, a natural preserve with breathtaking views of the Hudson River and special events year-round. The neighborhood also borders the 1,146-acre Van Cortlandt Park, one of the City's loveliest parks offering residents hiking, swimming, horseback riding, and handball and tennis courts. Every summer Van Cortlandt Park is the site of a free performance by the New York City Philharmonic Orchestra.
